The evening began with excitement as the everyone piled in Rockville Fencing Academy. The Riverbend team talked newcomer Mirtis Sison in to joining the fight to bring the total number up to 13, so the tournament could be ranked up to a D3, awarding ranks to the top 8.

The tournament quickly pivoted into 3 pools to speed things along, and even though the pools were small there was a lot of fencing to be had!

We started with Blue Squadron, where E ranked Locke, faced off against Rockville newcomer (and foil fencer) Charlie G. Charlie ended up losing the match, but not before showing his prowess with a strong Return right in the first match. Next the other two members on the squadron, newcomer from Riverbend, Daniel Moss and experienced combatant Arden B. faced off, with Daniel showing his his in a hard fought bout, defeating Arden. The best description of Blue Squadron was honorable as over 8 honor concessions were made. Experience won out as Locke eeked out a first place in the pool.

Next up was Green Squadron, made up of Riverbend's captain Josh Blum, and fellow Riverbend members, Sofia and Emily, along with a Rockville newcomer Ian K. The first exciting match was Josh versus Emily, where Emily found herself behind 4 to 1, before making 3 clean returns in a row to beat Josh. If Blue Squadron was all about Honor, Green Squadron was all about Returns. A total of 10 Returns were recorded in the pool. Of which 6 of them were performed by Emily! Josh and Emily finished the pool 1 and 2 with only a single touch separating them.

Last up was the 5 man Red Squadon, comprised of E ranked Grant B., Rockville newcomer (and competitively ranked foil fencer) John Tomasi, another Rockville newcomer Brent Keith, Riverbend newcomer Mirtis Sison in here first competition, Riverbends Ian R. John used his fencing know-how and cleaned up the pool with 4 wins. Ian R. surprised and came in second with 3 wins.

The pools ended with John, Ian and Josh leading the pack in 1, 2, 3. The eliminations were next with everyone promoted to the round of 16.

The round of 16 went by fast with the top 3 getting byes into the round of 8. Emily continued her Return onslaught racking up 2 more in here match with Rockville's Ian K, in a close match. In two surprising results, Arden B, defeated Grant B. and Charlie G. defeated Sofia B, knocking the siblings out of the top 8.

In the round of 8, we saw top seed John Tomasi, not only lose another tip but also step out of bound and get disarmed by Brent Keith, but still managed to hang on for the win. Emily once again showed she was on fire, as she defeated Locke F, with 3 more returns to add to her collection. In a heated battle of father versus son, Josh and Arden fought a very close match with Josh sneaking by thanks to a return early in the match. Ian R. finished out the top 4 by defeating Charlie G, with a couple of returns of his own.

In the semi-finals, is was age that beat out the youngsters, with both John and Josh moving on to the finals.

First was a fence off for 3rd, which resulted in Ian defeating a very tired Emily, leaving her at 4th place.

For the finals, it John vs Josh, and the match was nothing short of exciting. In the end lightspeed experience won out with Josh taking the victory 12 to 9.
