To ensure maximum inclusion and fair play for all our competitors in all our regions, Lightspeed Saber League uses the following super-policy with regards to gendered divisions:
Each Lightspeed region determines its own sub-policy for competitions in their area.
Each region decides what divisions they have, and who goes into them.
To ensure clarity and fairness, all policies are to be stated upfront on a tournament webpage for gendered divisions, if present.
No sub-policy may ban transathletes outright, or any other federally protected group.
There is also a national sub-policy which applies to all national level events. This policy will roll out over the next few years to ensure a smooth and reasonable timeline for athletes going through estrogen or testosterone hormone therapy.
The timeline will be rolled out as follows:
As of May, 2023, there are no requirements for entering the women’s division other than identifying as a woman.
As of July 1st, 2023 we are requiring 9 months of estrogen therapy to compete in national women’s division events.
As of July 1st, 2024 we will require 15 months of estrogen therapy to compete in national women’s division events.
Other important policy notes are that:
Any individual under 15 can enter any division that they identify under.
Trans men not taking testosterone can go into any division that they like.
Anyone of any gender is welcome in the open gender category.
Any region may duplicate the national sub-policy, should they choose.
At this time, athletes will self-report their gender and self-comply to the standards stated. No formal reporting is required.
This is a quickly evolving issue and we’re making sure that we’re serving our members at all times, so policies may change in the future. If you have any questions please contact Chief Executive Officer Cang Snow.
